Changing lives around the world…

Superior Solar of Virginia was invited to a private island off the coast of Roatan, Honduras, to install a 1.5kW off grid solar system. As well as enjoying the beautiful scenery, we were able to transform the lives of the island care takers and guests who had previously relied on a large diesel generator for electricity. The 30kW diesel generator would run for a couple hours in the evening, providing temporary light and power to the refrigerators and deep freezer. The rest of the day and night, flashlights and natural light were the only way to navigate, and food had to be handled with care so as not to get too warm and spoil. Using a 1.5kW solar array of only six panels, Superior Solar was able to transform the island to full time electricity, allowing laptop and cell phone charging, lights, and refrigeration 24 hours a day. The system was designed to be expandable, allowing room for more solar panels and bigger loads in the future. All in all, the project was a huge success that was on time, on target, and on budget. We owe a big thanks to our partner CJI Consulting for helping organize the project and for coordinating the complex logistics of getting solar equipment from mainland U.S. to a remote tropical Honduran island.
